Get Relief from Depression Without Taking a Pill! TMS Therapy in Milwaukee
Even though depression is a treatable mental illness, the standard treatments don’t work for everyone. If you’ve tried traditional depression treatments, such as medication and lifestyle changes, but haven’t felt any benefits, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy might be just what you need.
Hope Peace Recovery Treatment Centers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin offers TMS therapy, a treatment with a proven track record of success in treating depression. More than 2,150,000 sessions of TMS have been provided to over 65,000 people, and this treatment could help you too.
What Is TMS?
TMS is a non-invasive and drug-free depression treatment. In a TMS therapy session, a technician places an electromagnetic coil gently on your head. They switch the TMS device on, and the coil sends magnetic pulses to the prefrontal cortex of your brain.
TMS therapy works by using this electromagnetic energy to stimulate your prefrontal cortex. This part of the brain regulates mood. In someone with depression, it’s less active than normal. TMS stimulates the prefrontal cortex and improves how it regulates mood.
Our patient testimonials prove that TMS therapy is a very effective treatment for depression!

Covered by Most Insurance
TMS is covered by Medicare, TRICARE, and most private insurers for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
How Is TMS Different from Other Depression Treatments?
TMS is a unique depression treatment for three main reasons:
1. It’s Drug-free.
Because TMS therapy is completely drug-free, it’s a good option for people who:
- Don’t benefit fully from anti-depressant medication
- Can’t tolerate the side effects of medication
- Don’t want to take anti-depressant drugs
Anti-depressants don’t work for everyone, and some people prefer to avoid them. TMS therapy can be a good alternative as a drug-free depression treatment.
2. It’s Non-Invasive.
Other options for depression treatment include electroconvulsive therapy, deep brain stimulation, and vagus nerve stimulation. These can be effective treatments, but they involve invasive or unpleasant procedures, including surgery and anesthesia.
TMS therapy is a non-invasive alternative, where the patient sits comfortably in a chair for the duration of the treatment. You can even listen to music or watch TV while having TMS.
3. It’s Almost Side-Effect Free.
Fewer than 5% of patients stop having TMS therapy because of side effects. For people who have side effects, the most common effect is discomfort at or near the site where the coil is placed. This discomfort only occurs during treatment and usually subsides after the first week.
If you want to explore a drug-free, non-invasive depression treatment, TMS therapy could be a good option.
Stories from Our Patients
Find out how Kristi found hope and healing after 45 years of struggling with depression and ineffective treatments.
Relief from depression is only part of what you can expect at TMS Centers of America. You’ll also build relationships with professional, caring, and compassionate staff.
Just because you’ve suffered from anxiety and depression all of your life doesn’t mean you have to live with it forever. See how TMS is changing lives every day.
If I could go back and talk to my depressed self, I think that all I’d really say is don’t wait. Don’t waste those months. Just do it. Make that change.
After the treatments were over, I realized that there was an accumulating sense of well-being, and that was something I had never experienced before. I was happy! I felt well!
I was in and out in 45 minutes and drove myself to and from. I had no side effects, wasn’t sleepy, and didn’t have an upset stomach. I actually had energy after a few treatments.
How Long Does It Take for TMS Therapy to Work?
When you have TMS therapy, it doesn’t take long to notice the benefits. For most people, it takes just two or three weeks for noticeable changes to occur. For some people, it happens even sooner!
The effects of TMS last a long time, but some people need booster treatments to stay depression-free. If you do need a booster treatment, it’s likely you’ll need to take a few consecutive sessions a year. Most insurance covers booster treatments.
Does Insurance Cover TMS Therapy?
Most insurers cover TMS therapy because this is an FDA-approved treatment with documented success in treating depression. If you’re not sure whether your insurance covers TMS, don’t worry.
